A wart is caused by an infection with a virus known as human papilloma virus (HPV). This virus causes a small, benign growth of the skin. The warts virus is very contagious and therefore spreads easily. It is therefore not surprising that warts are among the 20 most common diagnoses made by general practitioners.<\/p>\n<p>The warts virus is very common. It is not known why some people suffer from warts and some people do not. Fortunately, it is usually a relatively benign viral skin infection. They often feel harder and rougher than normal skin. In some cases warts are darker tinted or have a black tip; this is often due to a blocked blood vessel.
